Happy F*ckin New Year

I hate the holidays. They always make you feel like you should be doing something other than what you doing. Hate feeling forced to spend money and give gifts just because everyone else is doing it. And if you don't spend time with your family or if you don't have family it's like everyday solitude morphs into loneliness on steriods. Like I'm OK if I'm alone on Jan 9th but, if it's Dec 25th and you're alone, that shit is just amplified.
Something about a new year that either gives you hope or makes you wanna give up. I'm feeling like a penny with a hole in it. Ever feel like you don't even dream no more. Has life ever lied to you?
I've been told a couple of lies....

Hungry vegetarian

So one day after being a self proclaimed vegetarian, I ate a frigging chicken biscuit from Chik-Fil a. Half way thru eating it, I realized I gave up meat like the night before. It was kinda like when you realize you've eaten meat on Good Friday.Waiting in line to place my order, I kept saying plain biscuit with coffee, plain biscuit with coffee. I go to place my order and "chicken biscuit" flew out my mouth. So I finished the whole damn chicken biscuit then I became slightly nauseous and vowed to start over again. I think I need to watch some more Peta videos http://www.meat.org/. Life changing I tell ya, especially if you're an animal lover!

So this whole vegan thing started because I can't eat red meat. Oddly enough, fast food burgers don't make me sick which leads me to think IT'S NOT MEAT. The last time I ate two servings of red meat in one week, I was sick for two weeks straight.
Since red meat is an issue for me, I decided to abandon  my cannibalistic ways completely. Sometimes, you gotta listen to your body plus that abdomen pain was no joke. I had mentally booked an OR suite to get resolve my intestinal blockage that WebMD and I had pre-diagnosed.
Nothing like a little e coli to get you closer to your weight loss goal. I stepped off the scale at the doctor's office, I secretly gushed at the fact that I lost 4lbs in less than a week. Yes, I was hungry and it didn't matter that I couldn't stand up straight from the severe abdomen pain. I lost 4 mf*cking lbs! Just saying by any means necessary. I digress....

Honestly, I used to hate vegetarians. I thought they were purposely being difficult making others cater to their dietary restrictions. I thought they were all incense burning and perm free. I secretly thought they were being judgmental to the whopper/big mac lovers of the world. Now I am one of them! Although, I don't judge. Why don't you just eat a puppy while your're at it?

I will eat fish but, I really don't like the taste of it. So I might be one hungry vegetarian if it wasn't for bread....Love me some bread and tofu ain't bad either.

Walk this way

This winter I assessed my boot inventory and vowed to only buy 1 or 2 pairs of boots in a color that I didn't already have. I desperately wanted a pair of cognac boots. Somehow, I  ended up with 4 pairs of boots!
Serious damage control is in order.

DSW....Sam&Libby-Priscilla boot. Oh so comfy. Great weekend boot alternative to my kicks.
Think I paid $39? used a store credit.

Next up, Etienne Aigner Karissa boot.  DSW got these for $85! They are this awesome caramel color and they actually fit my ginormous calves! Sometimes I just try on boots and thinking they won't fit my calf and I can walk away guilt free. Problem is when they fit my calf, I can't walk away!
Okay TJMaxx $35 not real leather but cute. They're more of a charcoal grey. Do you spell grey or gray? Think it's one of those funny Canadian words.
Banana Republic-Fauna  originally $198. At the BR outlet with a coupon and 50% off on Black Friday
Grand total $85!

OK....I don't need two pairs of cognac boots do I? YESSSSS!

These aren't boots but I had my eye on them and the price finally dropped.
I bought these before. See my prior post and I returned them. Bought them again for $21.00
MRKT Colbie
Got these for $25. They were originally $80.
OK, last one
MIA Quincy $25 marked down.

My birthday

I usually try to celebrate my birthday with one of my oldest friends. We planned to go to Mexico but a little hurricane named Rina changed our plans and the airlines cancelled all flights.
My birthday is a touchy subject. It can either be really good or terribly wrong. I have such high expectations for it since I really don't celebrate holidays. This year kinda sucked. I feel like a spoiled brat for saying that since I woke up and all. I spent my birthday completely ALONE. Whoa is me. My kid was away at college and husband was out of town working. Their presents were hidden in the house. I was told were to find them. That was cute but I really hate being alone. Does this make me a brat? I realize your birthday is really only important to you. Next year, I'm really going away.
This is where we went in 2010...

Since the trip was cancelled, I worked a 1/2 day. Renewed my CPR license (so I could keep my job) and then I went to the spa. I got a massage and a facial. I don't like facials. They covered my face in this gel and put this steamer thing over me. I was struggling to breath, my eyes were burning and then the lady left me to percolate. Total waste.... I could have gone in the shower with Noxzema for better results.

Massage was good, I guess. I requested deep tissue but, I was sore for several days afterwards...WTF. The masseuse said my skin was sooo soft. She kept talking to me, asking me what I used. I finally told her after I shower, I cover myself in olive oil while my skin in wet then I dry off. She was in total amazement. She sent me a thank you card saying that they are now using olive oil in the salon.
I should have told her it was a "secret recipe" and sold her some scented olive oil. I suck at being a hustler!

Sunday shoe shop, we bop

I picked these babies up today from TJ Maxx($49.99). Nine West website is selling them for $109 with 30% off....
I love the contrast of colors. Brown and purple. I can just imagine the purple peeking out from under a pair of wide legs.
Nine West -Unmixed

Its so hard to find blue shoes so I grabbed these... TJ Maxx again.  They are $39.99 minus my store credit. I paid $11.00 (insert savings grin here)

Thrift Galore

Ok...when I like something I go hard. Thrifting is my thing! After my 5th store, I no longer smell the infamous thrift aroma. I picked up this peach silkish shirt($5). Vintage detail. Checked the label to see if I could hand wash it. Only to realize, it was DianeVon Furstenberg! I usually don't care about labels but, this just sweetens the thrifting deal. I also got a pussy bow striped blouse, leather skirt, slacks, brand new with tags attached Ann Taylor blazer and Ann Klein slacks.

Rules of the Game:
Don't buy it unless you love it
Don't buy it because it's cheap
Bring a list
Don't rush through the aisles
Size doesn't matter-Try everything on
Location, location, location- The location of the stores matters to some degree.
Best buys are items that don't require alteration. I can't sew so, if I have to factor in the cost of alterations, its closer to paying retail :(
I don't do thrifted shoes. I just can't! I'm afraid of foot fungus..LOL
The more you save on clothes. The more you can spend on shoes.
For every few items you bring in, you should give one or two away.

Happy Thrifting!

Thriftmania

So I've been dying to try this thrifting thing that I've been hearing everyone talk about. I really struggle with  the musty stale aroma couple with the sheer embarrassment of being seen going into a Goodwill...I die! And now, I frigging addicted. It's unbelievable the labels and quality you can find......
My first trip I got a silk dress, Brooks Brothers slacks, 2 blazers and a shirt. Wait for it......$28.00!
I may never shop retail again. Pictures soon come.
